Old school punk is something that used to fill my CD rack quite frequently. You remember on some of the CDs how it would be 5 minutes into the record (about halfway through) and you’d get this pseudo “ballad” that was a little slower in tempo but still carried that political temper? This reminds me of that. Plus, it doesn’t hurt these guys are from Atlanta. I’m now a fan.

The new music video for Constantines’ Hard Feelings has them playing like giants amongst the cityscape of some place in Canada I’m guessing. And as an added bonus = Thunderstruck:

I’m pretty sure that I’m probably way behind on this and everyone else (especially Chase) is already subscribed to this Live Concerts podcast brought to you buy NPR: All Songs Considered, but just in case I’m wrong in my assumptions I decided to make an entry sharing my recent discovery. I just (as in about ten minutes ago) found out about this while searching iTunes for some new podcasts to listen to. It’s got full performances by The Black Keys, The Hold Steady, The National, Art Brut, and tons of other artists all of you guys will enjoy. I just subscribed and downloaded The Black Keys & The Hold Steady episodes and put them on my iPod, now I can’t wait to get to work tomorrow where I’ll have an opportunity to listen to them. I haven’t been this excited about a podcast since I discovered the 60 Minutes weekly podcast a few months ago. Fuck, I’m a dork.
Speaking of dancing, here is a bad ass video from a movie I desperately need to see – Planet B-Boy. I have it saved on my NetFlix cue but it’s not available yet. If anyone runs across it, let me know. — Shockwave

This is a video of a group of US soldiers completely serving a group of innocent Iraqi kids. Graphic content, please be advised.
Those kids got F’d in the A if you ask me.

When the Mets decided to pick a new theme song to be played during the 8th inning of their games, the team’s marketing department decided to let fans vote for their favorite tune. And while choices included classics like Jon Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” it was Astley’s song that racked in the most votes.
Millions, in fact.
“Rick Astley’s song was voted No. 1,” said Jay Horowitz, a spokesperson for the Mets. “There were over five million votes for the song.”

This is probably one of the biggest things I’ve ever been apart of. Yes, friends, I was one of the 5 million votes. I like to think of myself as being the deciding vote. Either way, the fact that it worked and all those people were rickroll’d is hilarious to me.
For me, last years’ Boxer by The National was the hands down champ. Which is why I find it very fascinating that La Blogotheque ’s Take Away Shows director/producer Vincent Moon followed these guys around filming every recording studio morsel. The result: A DVD Entitled A Skin, A Night, which will be released on May 20th along with an EP, The Virginia. The trailer is below:

Sometimes I’m in a mood for something beautiful and noisy. Here is a little gem I discovered, A Sunny Day in Glasgow (actually based in Philadelphia now). Really cool, dreamy synth pop sort of stuff. I recently happened upon them, but they have been around for a few years. I know this type of stuff may not be for everyone, but I’ve always appreciated shoe gazing acts like My Bloody Valentine, and The Jesus and Mary Chain is one of my all-time favorites. Like I said, it aint for everybody… but take a little ride with me if you will… on the 5:15 train:

Sub Pop Records has a new cash cow on their hands. Fleet Foxes have summoned all sorts of buzz around the blog horn, and some of legit, most of it over the top. But, all that aside, Fleet Foxes are something to get excited about, even if the vocals kinda, sorta sound like that Jim James fella.
